Ode to a Sierra Summer
Breathing deep
pollen surfing along
on gusts of cool life
attempting to reproduce but
only finding my lungs to rest in
Cold, deep snow melt
pooling among giants
beckoning
sweet and juicy trail snacks
floaties that sink
sunshine and smiles
leaping bare from tumbled stone
unavoidable, hypnotized by the deep
Community support happens weekly
competitive yard sports and story swapping
beer, brawn, sand, fun
a world of people meeting
Sunday evenings, feeling fresh
Creeping over the peaks
containment supposedly in sight
my head, my heart curling with smoke
climate change removing monuments
yet, work as usual
No pumps of caramel here,
Another coffee to go
ten swirls of steamed milk
traditional, but not your usual
pour over for here on the side
salted honey vanilla, lavender, rose
sweet, simple syrups poured
and topped with a learning heart
Work little, play a lot
find enjoyment in life again
identity isn’t defined by career
Sierra sun peeking through the pines
natural hot tubs, sunsets
setting my soul aglow
renewal at work
exposed on the Eastern Sierras
